Been meaning to link to this very nice post by Leifeng. Love the style and form of his writing here.
The post itself has the same quiet simplicity that he admires in his favorite place. Its a good short piece, click over and read the whole thing.
The small places are definitely the ones to check out. The ones with about 6 tables, oftentimes. The difficulty of course is knowing which ones are good, but you learn that over time.
