San Ye Glasses Warehouse

Most people in Shanghai know about San Ye, the place to get quick, cheap glasses right at the main train station. They used to be somewhere in the back of the station, and it could be hard to find. But now they have gone all legit, and they are on the 5th floor I believe of the building just opposite the station, over on the side near the number three line.

The prices there are just crazy, they go down to about 150 for basic glasses, and you can find nice deals in the 250-300 range.

A warning about the cheapest glasses there, with really cheap extruded plastic frames: The quality of that plastic is not good. Not good at all.

Recently I needed a pair, and I was in a bit of a hurry, so I just went for the basic model. Within a couple days, I began to feel pain behind my ears. And you know what? That plastic burned my skin. Chemical burns.

Trust me, San Ye is great, but go with the better quality frames next time, ok?

I know I will.
