Shanghai can be a crazy place, let me tell you.
You know, for years I have seen the fashion news on public tv, in the buses and subway, and I guess I never really thought about it. I mean, in the early days I didn’t really think of Shanghai as actually being a so-called ‘fashion city’; it was just out of the question. As I saw it back then, the closest Shanghai could get to real fashion was on the materials side of things, as obviously it was a trading center for every material known to man.
Few knew how to dress, and many paid little attention to their appearance. Well, it wasn’t really the dark days or anything, but things have changed dramatically since. Today it is a totally different ball-game, with multiple trends and the (I suppose) inevitable sub-cultures and styles. Of course, there are still tons of people catching up, but the difference is really striking.
Now this isn’t usually my beat. And you can see I haven’t utilized the excuse for some eyecandy.
So, my point is a small one. Its just that, for years I saw fashion on tv, but it used to be Italian models with those bubble Fendi glasses sporting winter collections. Right now? On Shanghai’s entirely-awesome subway? Along with the bad cartoons and worse yoghurt ads?
Please do note the pic. Imagine this particular young lady, her outfit re-affixed, and with a couple frills here and there so that you can call it ‘modest’, strutting down the catwalk, jiggling like jelly, on my commute home.
I can’t wait for the next installment.
PS: The yoghurt-as-a-dyspeptic concept is real nice for the dairy companies. I bet you they will stoke that into a national trend. The family ad campaign is pretty good. The replying one (young wife and hubby tapping their tummies) is butt-awful.
Totally unrelated to this post, I wanted to shout huzzah for the Pollard allusion in your comment over at Henley’s. Not even a GbV allusion, a *solo* Pollard allusion.
Just because w/500K+ songs there’s always a Pollard song one can allude to for anything doesn’t mean any are bum allusions.
Heh thanks. The tune popped into my head when I was writing the post so I went over to get the lyrics.
Not In My Airforce is one of the best solo Pollard albums I have heard, in fact I have been bumming because I don’t have a rip of it anymore.
I like what you guys are doing over at Agitprop, by the way.
