Birth Defects in China

A serious and worrisome report has just come out claiming that two babies are born in China every minute with birth defects due to pollution, based on government statements and admissions.

However, the report is completely unsourced, which is a concern. Is this real? There is no way to confirm, as there is no source listed for any of the many quotes provided. For this reason alone, I am dubious.

I will keep tabs and try to determine if the information is correct. Of course there is no doubt that pollution and environmental damage are major issues in China. However, false claims (should they be found to be so) would not be helpful.

Sad, if true. I will try to update this story soon.

Update: This statistic, converted into yearly numbers would represent over 1 million children with birth defects. Based on that, I am ready to assert that this report is not reliable.
